Josh Thomas is a black and white photographer with decades of practice. Shooting in large and medium format, he’s drawn to the immediacy and emotional clarity of seeing in shades of light and shadow—capturing moments that feel both lived and lasting. He keeps a daily practice of shooting, processing and posting at least one black and white image for nearly the last 4 years.

Throughout his work, he is fascinated by the way a scene—full in its depth and dimension—must be distilled for the inherently limited format of a photograph and then passing on to print or a screen. His ongoing exploration focuses on squeezing maximum impact from each moment, turning brief impressions into resonant, enduring images that evoke a sense of moment or place.
